Standing Still – U-KISS (MV)

U-KISS is for me the most underrated Kpop idol in Korea! I don’t know why they aren’t as popular as they are all around the world. They aren’t rookies anymore actually.. but still they don’t have that much of a following in the Kpop world. I’m not sure why, it could be because when they debuted, Kpop was ruled by the likes of DBSK, Super Junior, SS501 and Big Bang. However, it’s been years now and I can’t comprehend why they’re not that popular. – end of rant..

bring it back to old school

I like Ukiss since I heard Bring It Back to Old School. I think they have a certain charm for me that’s why I like them. Also, as I was new to Kpop that time and I did not understand absolutely any Korean, I was kind of happy to find Ukiss that time — because some of the member can speak English. I think this was the reason I liked them from before until now. I appreciate it a lot that they were the first to reach out to the international audience using English.

ukiss collage

So them boys have released a new single called Standing Still from their album Collage and AJ is back from his hiatus! Wohoo.

The Video

Well, to me there is nothing really special about the video… just them dancing with some screens of a girl with very scary green cat eyes. I’m not sure why she is there.. but I think it might have something to do with the song or something. I am guessing that the concept of the video was to show that the person is strong after all hardships.. love I guess in the video and is standing still. It’s just my guess.

Personally, I think this is not the best Ukiss video. I mean, they’ve done this concept before. It reminds me a lot of Manmanhani (Am I That Easy?) and Bingeul Bingeul. But every time they release a video, I look forward to their dances. I don’t want to compare them to any other group, but I am just happy to see them even after all these years, they are still doing the thing they are good at.. making good songs and good music.

Ukiss fighting!

The Song

It’s a nice song! Not the best Ukiss song though.. 0330 is still my favorite, but not bad at all. When I hear this song it’s like it’s something different from their past songs, but at the same time there is some Ukiss sound that I feel I am familiar with. I can’t really pinpoint. But this song is not as strong as Stop Girl or Manmanhani. I think it would get some getting used to appreciate it fully. But it’s Ukiss just the same so I like it.

A bonus for all Kiss Me’s is that AJ is on this song! I’m sure Kiss Me’s have missed him.. but he’s back! It’s nice to see all Ukiss together.. though I still miss Xander and Kibum. Great to have him back. Also, I like that they are giving a lot more recognition for Soohyun’s talent now. I love Kevin, but Soohyun’s voice is more powerful for me.. but he’s not given too much attention.

Now… what I really like about Ukiss songs is that they pay attention to the English of the songs. Well.. maybe not all the songs (I remember r squared pi!). But at least they try to make an effort especially with the lyrics and the pronunciation. As an international Kpop fan I appreciate that little details. Although 90% of the song is sung in Korean, but at least the other English parts are done right. No biggie– no pressure on K-entertainment companies, just a friendly reminder from an international fan!^_^

Glad to have them back!

Final Verdict: It’s not the best Ukiss song, but I like it just the same. Because it’s Ukiss. They’re underrated but they are as talented as other Kpop artists. The MV is just so-so though.

Cosmic Girl – Kim Tae Woo (MV)

LSchool here is finally ending! Hurray!!!! But I have to relocate again for further studies.. oh no! I know I have to move but I am slacking. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have time to post on my blog 🙂

kim tae woo

The post for today is Kim Tae Woo‘s comeback song Cosmic Girl.

The Video

When this video came out, I watched it immediately. I like Kim Tae Woo’s voice and his song. Liked it since he was in G.O.D. As the video played I was holding on to my seat because it stars Lee Dong Wook. Ok so I’ve been fan girling over since being in Strong Heart! His humor one of the best, but maybe not as fast as Lee Seunggi yet. The video started just fine, promising a story for us. But when the the video ended I was like WTF! Pardon the language dear readers.. but this video is one of those moments you have to say it! Could they explain to me: What’s with the concept!

Honestly, it was such a waste of Lee Dong Wook in the video. If not for him, I would not have sat through all of it. This is one of the videos I really don’t want to see again. Big mistake! Also, the scene where Kim Tae Woo is singing with a cosmic/outer space backdrop… it was well to put it not believable. If you are going to put a green screen backdrop make sure it’s done properly and make sure it’s not too obvious. Why do I feel like this video was made with a very low budget!  Not watching it again!

The Song

Hmm, how do I put it.. I like Kim Tae Woo but this song doesn’t do any justice to his voice. Comparing it to his previous songs like Love Rain and Echo, this one is really an average one. Don’t get me wrong. After listening several times, I’m liking it. But it doesn’t have that WOW factor that I had after listening to Love Rain and Echo. If you’ve just started listening to Kim Tae Woo’s music, maybe you won’t feel that way. But I know he has one of the most powerful voices in Korea. So this song.. I think is a wrong song for him. This is a miss for me… I think he deserves better songs — those that especially bring out his voice and singing style (soul).

And oh.. just a side note they really have to work on the Engrish of the song. I know it’s a Korean song, but there are a lot of people who understand and speak perfect English who are listening to Kpop songs. It’s not a biggie really, but they owe it to their international fans to at least get the correct words. Fan-service ya’ll!

Anyhow.. this song really grows on you and it’s gotten it’s roots attached to me.. I kind of like it now.

Final Verdict: It’s not really a wow-kind of Kim Tae Woo song! (blame it on Love Rain for making me feel this way) But this song kind of grows on you! WARNING: DO NOT WATCH THE VIDEO! Unless you want to Lee Dong Wook, else it’s a waste of time!!!

Blast from the Past: Old Super Junior Photos

It’s been a long time since I started being a Kpop fan and since I’ve been an ELF.

Last night as I was cleaning some files, I opened files from 6 years ago that I haven’t seen in ages. It’s some pictures of Super Junior. Some were even before Sorry, Sorry — back when having long hair was popular. I can’t believe how much they have changed!

So I am posting some of them here… so commence PHOTO SPAM!!!

Warning this is an incredibly long post! Sorry 🙂

I Will Show You 보여줄게 – Ailee (MV)

Yay! I’ve been waiting for this!! 🙂 I was really anticipating another song from Ailee and now she is back with her new track I Will Show You 보여줄게.

The Song

For this post, I’ll talk about the song first.

OMG!!! I love this girl and I love her songs. Actually I’ve been a fan since she was still doing her covers on youtube! This girl is very very talented. And actually I am not disappointed in the song. I don’t know why I am liking girl power songs. Like the title says, it’s a song about a girl telling the guy (who I assume broke up with her) I’ll show you I can’t live without you! Yay for girl power!

The thing I like about this song is the transition from the slow beat to a fast one. I don’t know why I like songs like these, maybe its these! But maybe it’s because of Davichi’s 8282! Ha.. But actually, to me this song doesn’t sound too much of a Korean pop song. I think it sounds more like Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive. It has a western touch to it. I think maybe it’s because those are the influences Ailee has with her music.

I have always liked Ailee’s voice and this song showcases her talents, that she can belt a ballad as well as do a fast song. She did prove that when she showed her versatility on Immortal Song 2. I just love this girl!! And I think she could make it big internationally especially because she can speak English.

The MV

When I saw the teaser, I was like OMG it’s G.O! Sorry Ailee, I love you but G.O caught my attention first! But this is Ailee’s song not MBLAQ so I’ll stop talking about G.O. He plays the love interest in the MV.

So the story of the MV is quite simple. It’s something you will most likely see for a song like this. No need to explain really! Haha.. But Ailee was really pretty  with the transformation! I’m so envious of how good she looks with that minidress!  This video is screaming how pretty this girl is!

But what’s up with the ending! I thought you were telling the guy you will show him! Why did you get back with him! Girl you need to keep your head high and not get back with him! ok ok so I am complaining. Oh well maybe her purpose for showing him was to win him back.. but but… ok i’ll stop.

Final Verdict: I love how Ailee showed her versatility in this song! I can’t wait for the broadcasts!

I Don’t Need A Man 남자 없이 잘 살아 – Miss A (MV)

Miss A has released the MV of their new song I Don’t Need A Man (남자 없이 잘 살아).

The Video

This is a very different video from Miss A. If you’ve seen all their past videos you would know what I am talking about. This video shows more of the hip hop side of Miss A.

The video is a bit confusing for me at first. I had to rewatch it to appreciate it. But I kind of like it. The best part for me was the beginning. I love that this video is all about a woman singing that she is independent. I feel like we need more of this in the Kpopland. Honestly, nowadays there are too many songs that are too cute for my  liking and it’s usually singing about getting a guy or breaking up with a guy. It’s too much!

The video does remind me a bit of Destiny’s Child’s Independent Women. But I think not plagiarizing way, because after all that video was a different one. I guess it’s just the message of the song! Haha.. The black, white and red colors in the song worked for me. But I’m not really fond of the costumes that they wore in this video. Maybe I am just used to seeing Miss A wearing something different. The dance is not as powerful as their old dances. I maybe it’s because the beat of the song is different and slower compared to their previous releases.

What I do love it how Miss A can change their concept and fit perfectly to the concepts of their song. They never had that difficulty I think. From Bad Girl Good Girl, Breathe, Goodbye Baby and Touch — all these songs have a different persona of each member. I kind of like this bit from Miss A. Their concepts are cool and not wacky or too over the top! In this video, it’s the hip-hop Miss A.. And I think I would have to get used of this new concept!

The Song

This is a surprise because this song sounds less of a pop song and more of a hip hop mixed with rnb track — very different from previous Miss A songs. It’s also slower compared to other Miss A songs. But what’s great about it is that it displays Miss A’s versatility with music. But as of writing, I’m still getting used to this new track. But it’s getting to me slowly.

I love Miss A MVs because they always have an English caption released with it. So it’s easy to understand and there is no need to wait for translations. I love the lyrics of the song! Like I said above, we need more of these kind of songs in Kpopland!!! I’m too tired of listening to girls catching a guy’s attention or crying of a broken heart! I love that it says I don’t need a man! Cheers for Miss A for releasing this song! I also love the bit where they say “jinja” and “cheongmal” in the chorus! Catchy!

What’s not to love about Min rapping in the song! I know Jia always does the rap parts, but I love it that Min is rapping in this song too! Sorry I have a bit of bias for her (can’t you tell?) but I think she’s very talented and I especially her bubbly personality!

Final Verdict: This is a new Miss A sound and I’m still getting used to it! But I do love the lyrics of the song! Hurray for Independent Women!!
