Blast from the Past: 2008 MKMF DBSK Performance

Ok.. so I know this is a bit old, but I wanted to share some old stuff on my blog. Some may react like 4 years ago was not old, but in the land of Kpop and with the emerging Kpop fans and debuting groups, 2008 was a long time ago.

And today, I can’t stop watching this video from MKMF (MAMA now) in 2008. It’s the performance of DBSK when they were still 5.

I can’t help it but I find myself watching this video during the past days. I don’t know why. Maybe because it was because I remember how crazy I was with DBSK back in 2008.

I started being a Kpop addict in 2008 all because of DBSK. And it was that time when videos were difficult to find and Kpop fans around the world were only a few. I remember how difficult it was to find subbed videos and how bad the quality of the videos were back then. DBSK introduced me to the world that is known as Kpop.

Back then, there was no Beast, Infinite or Teen Top. They were still training to be the pop idols that they are now. It was just DBSK, Super Junior, Big Bang and SS501. They were the big names for the boy bands. While it was Wonder Girls, SNSD and Kara who rules as girl groups.

It was difficult to be a Kpop fan before but I really enjoyed it. And I have DBSK to thank for that craziness that still continues until this day.

I could only wish though for them to become 5 again. 10 year reunion maybe??? Oh well, I’ll keep my fingers crossed!

Uncommitted – Junsu (Xia) — with lyrics

Finally Junsu has released a slow song. I have been waiting for this! And boy oh boy was I surprised when the ballad is all in English!

It’s Junsu‘s Uncommitted.

The Video

I actually saw the video when it was released last week, but I never had the time to write about it. When I saw it, my first impression was that they are trying to show Junsu’s sexy side not the cute side we were used to seeing back then. But though I am still not over the cute Xia face, I think it’s good that they are trying to sell the mature side of him.. like a statement that he is all grown up now.

The video actually works for me. Although, I wanted to tell all those girls to get their hands off him! haha.. anyway, that’s the crazy fan talking and not me writing! This video works because it shows in that he is a player and he likes to party ergo he doesn’t want to settle down ergo the message of the song. I think the part where he was arguing with the girl signals the message of the song.

The Song

I like the song, especially the tune. It has a very western feel to it. Not very common in Korean ballads / slow songs. If it wasn’t him singing, I would have thought that this song was from a foreign artist.

But what brings me back to reality is the English! I know he is Korean, but if you plan to release a song in English, you have to make sure the words are understandable to someone who speaks/understands English. I understand perfect English but some of the parts.. let’s just say I’m not sure what I was hearing.  Although, Junsu’s English pronunciation skills have improved a lot… well that is if you compared it to how he sang in the past. But frankly, he still needs a bit more practice. There were parts in the song where the stress wasn’t right so I wasn’t sure what it was.

I think if CJES wants JYJ to breakthrough in the US, they would have to do what the Wonder Girls did, learn the language and the culture.

Anyway, if you were wondering what the lyrics is for this song here it is:

She said I couldn’t be committed
She said I’m too much of a player
Come on

Uncommitted
Uncommitted
Uncommitted
Ey, ey

It was all a dream
Reality was far from
the safe picture she painted for me
She told me I was the one and I believed
until the dream dissipated so suddenly

I don’t know why she was so compelled to leave
Something was messin’ with her psychology
I’m confused, she’s sayin’ something’s wrong with me,
But how can I fix something I cannot see?

She said, “You’re not ready
Baby, you’re not ready for the real thing”
She told me that I’d be
unfaithful and I cannot believe

She said you can’t be committed
I said baby I don’t really get it
She said you’re not the right type
only good for one night,
you never stay committed to me

How could this be, she’s telling me
I will never let her be my everything
She said I’m a player and I’ll never change
I feel that I’m ready to leave the game.

She said she could’ve never trusted a player like me
but baby that was part of my history
she’s telling me breaking hearts is a part of me
it’s like it’s in my system and it would never leave

She said, “You’re not ready
Baby, you’re not ready for the real thing”
She told me that I’d be
unfaithful and I cannot believe

She said you can’t be committed
I said baby I don’t really get it
She said you’re not the right type
only good for one night,
you never stay committed to me

She said you can’t be committed
I said baby I don’t really get it
She said you’re not the right type
only good for one night,
you never stay committed to me

I’m committed

Uncommitted, I’ll never admit it
and then i’ll never get it but somehow she could be right
Uncommitted, I’ll never admit it
and then i’ll never get it but somehow she could be right

She said you can’t be committed
I said baby I don’t really get it
She said you’re not the right type
only good for one night,
you never stay committed to me

She said you can’t be committed
I said baby I don’t really get it
She said you’re not the right type
only good for one night,
you never stay committed to me

Final Verdict: The video fits this very good song.. however as this song was sung all in English, they could have done better with the pronunciation.

Tarantallegra’s Dance Version (Junsu of JYJ)

Now this is more like it!

It’s the dance version of Junsu‘s (JYJ) Tallantalegra.

I think this is way better than the other MV. Why? Because of the dance! OMO, I love how powerful the dance is!!!

I also have to say that this dance video was very well edited. It’s not like all the other dance version MVs where the artist just dances. It still has a very strong connection to the concept of the previous video with a lot less of all the drama and more dance. I did not cringe in while watching this video. lol!

Now the only thing that’s would make this song’s promotion perfect is if Junsu can promote this in broadcasts like Music Bank. Wonder when I can see him and the rest of JYJ do it again??

This post is a little short because I can’t help going through the video over and over again! The dance speaks for itself! ^_^

Get Out… Goodbye – JYJ (MV)

OMG I am late again for another JYJ track. Curses (sorry I don’t want to curse too much on this blog so I’ll do what Mojo Jojo says… curses!! kk)

Yes, I just saw this video yet again.. grrr.. I guess I am not updated with Kpop music anymore.. huhu.. oh why is my life so busy these days.. and I think I need to cut back on my drama watching.. really!

Anyway.. enough with the blabber, this is JYJ‘s video for Get Out… Goodbye.

I have to say its a cool track, except for the Engrish parts. I mean I like the boys, I really like them, they were the reasons for my being a Kpop addict — they started it all. But if they are going to sing English words they have to make it clear as possible. I understood some of them but some I can barely understand. What the heck happened to Yoochun’s english? Isn’t he the one who was good at it? Hmm.. but maybe he did not have too much practice. I think in this song the english is too heavily accented to the point that you can’t understand it. Sigh.. but at least its not as worse as Ayy Girl. Cassies don’t go biting off my head.. I am just saying for them to enunciate their english words clearly the next time 🙂

I like that this song are making them dance! Yahoo!! I mean a part from them being good with ballads, dancing is what makes this group one of the best. Its a good dance track and the beat is really a good one. I like how from a slow beat they transformed it into something you could dance to. You can dance without the disco feel to it — almost like an American rnb track. Though, in their album, I still think In Heaven is the best track. But this track is way better than Ayy Girl!!! kk 🙂

The video… hmm its a little too common for me. Just loved to see them dance.. especially Junsu. But I do like the part where they dance in suits and in black and white.

I do think that this album is way better than their first one as a group, both Get Out and In Heaven are just the right tracks for JYJ. I just wish they could promote on the variety shows..

In Heaven – JYJ (MV)

OMG!!! I didn’t know about this video until today… It was released the other week but I guess I was too busy to notice. But I loved the song!

This is my second favorite JYJ song (Found You will still be number 1). It’s called In Heaven.

I absolutely love it when they do ballads. I know that DBSK was a dance group but I still think they are one of the best ballad and acapella group in Korea, too bad they went their separate ways. But I when JYJ released this song, I am happy because now they are doing ballads once more! And it especially fits the 3 of them.

When I saw the video I was more surprised. I love sad songs and sad videos and I kind of miss this kind of Korean music video. Nowadays there aren’t too much stories in the music videos — its either just dancing or singing or acting cute in the video. Boy am I happy to see one like this. And the plus is that Junsu stars in it! Among the three of them, he is one who hasn’t acted in a drama (not the Bajun one they used to do). But I think he had experience with acting but only in the musical stage. I’m happy to just see him be the one who stars in this video.. And there is Ji Hyo as the girl! I love her 🙂

The story of the video was a little too predictable to me and there were several parts that weren’t close to what actually happens in reality. I mean who could actually travel to time re do the future.. Yes, you only see that in movies and on tv.. or maybe it will happen a hundred thousand years from now! But I forgive them… not because of Junsu (though I was screaming like a fan girl when I saw it) but because they had a point to make.. to be together with the one you love in eternity. Sweet.. just not real! kk

I saw the teaser videos of Jaejoong and Yoochun also.. I guess they might be releasing other version of the video. We have to wait and see.. but I am happy that they released Junsu’s first.. ohh the bias is coming out.

I can’t wait for the next ones!! I wish they could perform on variety shows though.. sigh…
