Recommended Drama – Fated to Love You

Before my friend left for China to be a language student, she left me a copy of a Taiwanese drama that she was watching. The drama was called Fated to Love You. During that time I had a lot of catching up to do with the dramas my friends were watching because back then I was so busy with work. I was still watching They Kiss Again at that time. I finally had the chance to watch this drama last October (about a month after my friend left for China) — and surprise suprise i loved it (obviously as I would not be recommending it if I did not like it :D).

The drama tells about the story of a sticky note girl and how she found (and eventually ended up) with the man of her dreams — and  all that was thanks to FATE.

Synopsis

A really unfashionable working class girl Chen Xin Yi has the desire to tie down her handsome boyfriend to be with her. Due to certain reasons, her boyfriend gets her to go on a love cruise and she started to ponder on how to lose her virginity and tie down her boyfriend. Xin Yi ended up taking cold medicine which made her drowsy and went into Ji Cun Xi’s room. Cun Xi is the sole male heir to his family’s company and has been in love with his girlfriend, Anna, for a long time. He planned to propose to Anna on the boat but she didn’t turn up on the cruise. An island owner added drugs into Cun Xi’s drink and Cun Xi became disorientated and returned to his own room. Xin Yi and Cun Xi end up having a one night stand. Xin Yi later finds out that she’s pregnant and Cun Xi’s grandmother forces them to get married. Will a couple forced to marry for the sake of their unborn child find love with each other?

The drama starred Chen Qiao En (Joe Chen) as the sticky note girl Xin Yi (who later became known as Elaine) and Ethan Ruan (Ruan Xiao Tian) as the Cun Xi.  It also starred Baron Chen as Dylan and Bianca Bai as Anna.

Why I loved this drama (warning: spoiler alert)?

I loved this drama because it had a common story — a common story that a common person understands or can relate to. But the common story had twists that adds spice to the story. I also liked the lines that they had (although I could understand it through english subtitles). I especially liked the “words of wisdom” Xin Yi’s mom would tell. Although in the beginning of the drama, you will see that Xin Yi is the daughter who receives the least attention among her sisters, as the story will progress you will know that Xin Yi’s mom is most concerned about her youngest daughter. The series is also a very light one — there were parts that would make you want to cry, but there were also parts that would make you laugh until your stomach would ache. I especially love the part when Cun Xi would be beaten up by Xin Yi mom — the reaction is priceless! The whole story is a balance of comedy and drama.

The proposal (which you will see on ep. 23) is also one of the most romantic ones I’ve seen in the drama. I liked the idea of how they incorporated the sticky note into the proposal — I LOVE U – Z (*_*). The drama’s soundtrack is also one of the best taiwanese soundtracks I’ve heard. I loved the songs and the songs really would fit the scene where they were being played. My heart would ache everytime I hear Jin Xiu Duet’s My Happiness (Wo Do Kuai Le). I also liked the ending theme of drama (Sticky Note Wish).

This is one of those dramas that you have to see – a must see! If you don’t believe me then check out mysoju.com and see that this drama is currently on the number one list of the all time most watched dramas on their site (and I would like to especially thank RandomFS for subbing the drama :D). And if its not enough, this particular drama is currently holding the crown for the drama with the highest rating in Taiwan, having a peak rating of 10.91 during the airing of the 20th episode. And this is the highest rating a drama had in Taiwan. Because of the high ratings Ethan Ruan had to swim NAKED!

    1. Totally loved this drama. It was heart-wrenchingly sad, slapstick funny, romantic and fast-paced! There were a few episodes that were unnecessary, so I think it went a little longer than it should have. Imo, could have been wrapped up in 18 eps, but all-in-all, it was a fantastic story. Loved the ride. Can anyone recommend more just like it? I seem to be suffering form Cinderella-syndrome these days.
