This is so cool! Though I think this has been posted somewhere else.. but it’s so cool!
It’s Go Jun Pyo vs. City Hunter… well at least in a fan made video… the video title is Hunter Over Flowers.
I was actually brought to this video because of a post from Dramabeans (one of the best sources for drama info and recaps!). The video was actually about Fashion King (Yoo Ah In) and Rooftop Prince (JYJ’s Yoochun). And then I saw this! As you can see its a video of Lee Min Ho playing 2 different characters from 2 different dramas. And one word for this video — EPIC!!!
If I didn’t know better I would think this was a preview for another drama! Can you imagine Go Jun Pyo and City Hunter are twins and are about to Kill each other?? Now this is a drama I want to check out! Love it!!! The video is actually edited by wjrghk007 from a naver blog and was reuploaded on youtube. The video I posted has the English subs. And for the editing, this is hands down a really good one!
Don’t you think so??

Perhaps Love – J and Howl (Live)

The first Korean song I really like was Sarangingayo (사랑인가요) or Perhaps Love from the OST of the Kdrama Goong (Princess Hours). I saw the drama on TV in 2006/2007 and I loved this song ever since. I even loved this song way before I got into my Kpop phase.
This was the first Korean song I learned to sing, and the first one I memorize. Every time my friends and I went to a noraebang, the one with Korean and Japanese songs, I would always sing it! I still love to sing this song until now and it still brings back that giddy feeling I had while watching Goong! (heck, there are times I still watch Goong!)
Though there have been a lot of covers done for this song, nothing beats the original singers singing it! kk And I found a clip where they performed it together on another Korean cable TV show! I loved it so much that I want to share it!
I so love this song! It makes me want to sing along! kk
If you ask me what’s my favorite Kpop song ever — it would have to be this one! What’s your favorite Kpop song?

Recommended Drama – My Name Is Kim Sam Soon

If you are curious about watching a Korean drama but you don’t know which Korean drama to start off with, I would recommend you to watch My Name is Kim Sam Soon (내 이름은 김삼순).
The Story
Its a story about a girl, Kim Sam Soon, in her 30′s who has just been dumped by her boyfriend on Christmas Eve. She goes crying and eventually ends up in the men’s bathroom where she met her future boss, Hyun Jin Heon, the owner of Bon Apetit. Their first meeting is not a friendly one, but little did she know that she would be working for him as the pastry chef of his restaurant. Jin Heon’s mom is continuing to pester him about getting married so he contracted Sam Soon to be his girlfriend. Later on, they both develop feelings for one another, but things get complicated when Jin Heon’s ex-girlfriend came home. Will both Sam Soon and Jin Heon end up together?? Ok.. so I wrote this synopsis myself because I don’t want to spoil the fun of watching the drama
Although we do know what happens to most romcom (romantic comedy), let’s just pretend not to know!
The Actors…
Kim Sun Ah
This is probably the best role she has ever done! She’s very very convincing..
Hyun Bin
This drama was in 2005, thus this drama was way before Secret Garden.Though we all loved him in Secret Garden, he was pretty good here for a new actor.
Jung Ryeo Won
I super love this girl. She’s one of those who made a successful cross over from being in a girl group to being an actress, she is just absolutely talented! Though this is one of her early dramas. But if you watch most of her works now, you’d be really amazed by her — try watching My Girlfriend has Two Faces.
Daniel Henney
One word! HOT! ahaha I saw Daniel Henney for the first time after watching this drama and I never stopped adoring him! He is so handsome! kk ok… i’ll stop now before I start typing about how handsome he is.. but he is so handsome, isn’t he??
Why I Like It?
Honestly, this is not the first drama that I have seen, but if I were to watch Kdrama’s all over again, I’d love to start with this. Most of the other dramas that I watched before this were all melodramas with a heavy theme. But this just hit the right spot, with me thinking at times “Why do you keep breaking my heart” or laughing like crazy. It was fun and light but with a story of its own. I guess that’s what I miss watching in romcoms. Some romcoms now just don’t have the flare of the old ones like Samsooni, Full House, Goong or Coffee Prince. To me they will always be classics.
As this drama was made in 2005, I love the fact that they made a story that many would realize and understand. In Korea its a big deal for a woman when they reach 30 and they’re not married or if they do not have a family. I am not Korean, but my Korean friends who are in their 30s have this dilemma. For most of us its just an age, but apparently there, women feel like they are old and there is that pressure to find your match before you get any older. Women also there feel that the older they are, the lesser will be the chance for them to get married. And if the pressure from the age is not enough, parents and relatives ask them when will they get married. My friend hates going to her hometown because of this pressure! To me, I think this drama made girls understand that women in their 30s still do have a chance and that they can still be beautiful!
Kim Sun Ah was at her best in this drama. She was very very effective as 30 year old chubby loveless girl. And what amazes me is that she had to put on some weight to play this girl. She’s a pro. I have to say this is Kim Sun Ah’s drama and she will forever be remembered as Kim Sam Soon! Even now, when I see her, I always associate her as Samsooni! That’s how faboulous she is!
But if you watch this drama.. please remember that this was made in 2005, so it doesn’t have all the new gadgets and high fashion of the dramas now..
The OST
This drama also had one of the most unforgettable songs! It was this drama that made Clazziquai (Alex, Horan and Dj Clazzi) popular in the mainstream Kpop music. Here are 2 of the songs from the drama which you might have heard before.
Be My Love (first part) and She Is
Picture Spam! Don’t you just love this drama!
So if you’re looking for a good Kdrama to start your Hallyu addiction, My Name is Kim Sam Soon will be a good one!

Recommended Drama – Flower Boy Ramyun Shop
15 Dec 2011 Leave a Comment
in asian, drama, flower boy ramyun shop, korean Tags: drama, flower boy ramyun shop, jung ill woo, korean drama, lee ki woo
Ok so I haven’t recommended something in a long time.. but I have to write about this before I get stuck up again with lots of work related stuff to do! And because the drama is still airing.
Actually though I am not posting a lot of articles in the blog I have been up to date with the dramas, though not so much with Kpop and variety shows anymore. And this drama is what I’ve been looking forward to see every week!
Most of the dramas I watch are from the big Korean stations, I don’t usually watch dramas on Korean cable because they’re not so much popular. I think the only cable dramas I watched were Manny and Joseon X files. With Korean dramas I tend to stick with the mainstream ones. But I started to watch this out of the whim for the ever so popular Scheduler from 49 Days. Yes, because of the Jung Il Woo, I watched Flower Boy Ramyun Shop!
I’ve always like him since I saw Nae Sarang (My Love) the movie he starred with Lee Yeon Ji among others. He used to have little baby fat that time though, but he was cute. I didn’t even know who the other characters were, except for Lee Ki Woo. This is his come back drama after enlisting for the military — but I only remember him from the movie The Classic.
Flower Boy Ramyun shop is a story about a girl, Yang Eun Bi who struggles through passing a civil service exam. While her fortune about her exams told, the fortuneteller says she will be meeting the one destined for her and she will hear bells when she does. One day, she accidentally meets a handsome but arrogant Cha Chi Soo and she hears bells. Eventually she ends up asking him to date, only to find out (to her humiliation) that he is still in high school. Later we find out that Eunbi’s dad has a ramyun shop but she does not inherit it but instead was given to her dad to a lazy Choi Kang Hyuk. And so Eunbi ends up working for Kang Hyuk and so does Cha Chi Soo.
I actually thought that this was another simple drama, with a story line that contained a lot of cliches, but as I watch the story unfold, its full of twists that I would never have guessed. The script is also commendable as it gives you an excited and giddy feeling thinking about someone you love. I think it’s story, though some parts I’ve seen in other dramas already, has a lot of depth to it. It’s not just seeing a bunch of flower boys and screaming your heart out. Every week I couldn’t wait what’s going to happen next. They’ve got me anticipating for the next episode.
And the biggest plus in the drama for me is Lee Ki Woo!! Like I said I faintly remember him in The Classic. He was the guy who married the heroines mom. But I think the army did good to him! I knew he always has a towering body like a gentle giant, but he looks absolutely fantastic in this drama! And he fits the role perfectly. Yang Eunbi.. if you don’t want the pillar can I have him instead! I love that his character is the dependable man who seems to be lazy on the outside, but in fact is so calculating and smart on the inside! I want a man like that! ^_^
This drama isn’t a boring one as there are a lot of jokes and characters that make it a nice show to watch. The sub characters add a little more flavor to the ramyun that the main actors have cooked. If this was my ramyun I would give it a 4.5 out of 5… The 0.5 deduction is because there are some cliches that are there.. some twists that I could have guessed but kudos to the writers for giving a new light to it.
This ramyun is better served hot so as a sample, I give you a song from the OST. It’s called Loving Loving by Yoon Sae Ha.
And as a side dish I give you some pic spam of Lee Ki Woo!!! kk

I’ll Protect You – JYJ Jaejoong (OST Protect the Boss)

I’ve been busy ever since I moved to another country. I’m kind of adjusting until now, but I guess I will be fine.. and I have my kdramas to accompany me.
A friend of mine has been bugging me to watch the drama Protect the Boss 보스를 지켜라. I have not really watched it because I was stuck on watching You’ve Fallen for Me and then Can’t Lose. I have to admit I wasn’t keen in watching Can’t Lose but I had to make an exception because of Choi Ji Woo. I know she’s not getting any younger, but to me she is one of the best Korean actresses. I loved her since I saw Honesty.
So while I’m here, and since I have some time to spare.. and because my curiosity got me, I decided to download Protect the Boss. I don’t really download dramas as I prefer watching them online. But I gave an exception to this one after seeing the firt episode. Yup that’s right, after I saw it I was hooked! But before I do talk non stop about it, here is a song from the OST I’d like to share. It’s called I’ll Protect You by JYJ Jaejoong.
Ok I have to admit, I am not much of a fan for Jaejoong’s voice, but I absolutely love this song. And every time I hear it being played on the drama, I love it! This is maybe just like Jaejoong singing Insa (from A Millionaire’s First Love). This is just the right OST for the drama.
Like I said, I am really hooked!! I love every minute of Protect the Boss, though I’ve only seen about 6 episodes from the time of writing this. Sometimes I wish I can just stay home and do nothing but watch it until I reach the recent episodes, but I can’t do that.. sigh. Anyway.. why do I like this drama, it’s very light hearted and so far it’s fast paced! kk
I like the way Ji Sung acts as the immature boss who hides the fact that he has panic disorder.. Look at this!! And I think the elevator scenes where his dad beats him up are so hilarious!!
Jaejoong also looks good here, though well maybe he’s just not my type, but the Cassies who like him would fall for him and his character. I love how they fashioned him as the mysterious cousin who gets into childish fights with the immature boss.
And of course, what’s not to love about No Eun Seol (Choi Kang Hee). I love love her character!!! I love that they made her a punk! kk A very beautiful punk! kk Actually I liked her in My Love (movie), she had such a bubbly character there. I think she is a very versatile actress…
I can’t really tell if this is a must see drama or not. I haven’t watched half of the released episodes yet. But I do say that I am enjoying every minute of it! To my friend its as the same level as Coffee Prince. And believe me, that friend likes that drama.. so I guess it’s worth seeing.
So I guess I’d better end here and continue watching the drama!

Ok so I know some of you may have seen the trailer already as it has been uploaded on youtube for sometime now. But I really really can’t wait for it.
Skip Beat is actually one of my favorite anime and manga. It’s one that I have watched for a long time, though unfortunately I haven’t been paying close attention to it now. I like it because Ren Tsuruga is to me the ideal man! (though this kind of men you only meet in mangas, i’m not sure if they really exist!! kk). Also, the story of this anime/manga is quite interesting to me.
I was really happy when it was picked up for a live action adaption which was then supposed to be starred by Ariel Lin and Jerry Yan. I’m not much of a Jerry Yan fan (though I have to admit he is getting more handsome the older he gets), but I like Ariel Lin. She is by far a very talented Taiwanese actress, at least in my opinion (i love how she can change characters but I love her the most in ISWAK).
When news of the change in the actors came, I was a bit disappointed that Ariel Lin was not going to be part of the project. But the disappointment was replaced by happiness when I learned Siwon was going to play Ren Tsuruga!! Wee… Just perfect!
So I can’t wait for this to be shown!!

Do You Know (알고 있나요) – Someday ft. Jea (BEG)

For a fan of the drama Boys Over Flowers, I know you must be familiar with this song. In the OST of Boys Over Flowers, Do You Know by Someday was featured as one of the songs, which of course became very popular.
But did you know that there was a duet version of this song featuring Jea (Brown Eyed Girls)??
At the time Boys Over Flowers was airing, I did not know that there was a duet version of this song, up until a few months ago when I was searching for new songs to download. This song was one of my favorites in the BOF soundtrack so I was a little hesitant about this version. I was very much surprised that this version was sung as a duet. But when I heard it, I immediately liked it. Heck, I even prefer it over the one that was featured in BOF.
I love the idea of having Jea’s voice in the song. I mean I like her voice, I think she has one of the strongest voice in the Kpop industry. It added more spice to the very likeable song. The blending of the voice sounded very much pleasant to my ears.
As for the video.. well remember that guy who played Sam Soom’s ex-boyfriend, yup that’s the same guy. And I have to say he looks better here. He was too lanky during the Kim Sam Soon days (but that was in 2005, I think this songs was in 2009). Oh sorry I forgot to tell you his name is Lee Kyuhan. And if you’re a Super Junior fan, you might have seen him in Introducing a Star’s Friend with Leeteuk and Eunhyuk.
So I hope you liked the song… and if you like it you can click here to have it

Waiting (기다리다) – Panic (패닉)

I am absolutely enjoying old Kpop songs these days. I don’t know but I get excited when I hear them sing an old song and I immediately jumped to looking for the original singer of the song.
I have been listening to this song over and over for the past few days (its this and David Choi’s By My Side). I know it has been sung over and over again by several artists and it has been featured in Kdramas, the latest of which was in Dream High. But I guess this song will not fade (that’s why I love old songs
)
The song is called Waiting (기다리다) by Panic (패닉). I couldn’t find any music video so I settled for a this….
and a live version of Lee Jeok (이적) singing (by the way he was part of Panic but he’s a solo artist now..
This song was originally releases in 1995 as part of Panic’s first album. I absolutely love the strumming of the guitar in this song. There is something about acoustic music that really draws me. Must be my liking for rock music. And the song’s melody is truly saying the feeling of the lyrics of the song, so that’s another plus in my book. I just love it and I have been playing this again and again. Here’s the lyrics to help you sing along…

Waiting (English Translation)
While I was waiting for you,
I’ve been thinking that you’re so painful after you left me.
So you’re crying on the way back to me.
When I look at you, I hope.
On a clear day you will come back to me just like when you left me.
Can’t I see you again?
I can’t see me in your eyes
Comfortable waves and remains of the smile make me cry.
You’d come back to me
Don’t hesitate to come to my arms if your heart called me
I’ll hug you like I did before.
When I look at you, I hope.
On a clear day you will come back to me just like when you left me.
Can’t I see you again?
I can’t see me in your eyes
Comfortable waves and remains of the smile make me cry.
You’d come back to me

I’ll hug you like I did before.

I know a lot of Kdrama fans recognized this song being sung by Pilsuk’s (IU) character from Dream High. This was the song she was singing in the hospital. But I liked this song when I saw Kim Hyun Joong singing it in Boys Over Flowers. This was the song he sang when he was in Macau (before the acoustic version of Because I’m a Fool). *wink *wink ^_^
So who sang it better?

Junsu (JYJ) on Scent of a Woman

I have been watching 3 dramas recently – Heartstrings, Myungwol the Spy and Scent of a Woman. It has been the talk of the town that Junsu (JYJ) is going to make a cameo appearance on Scent of a Woman and he did that last week!
Junsu played a singer whom Kim Sunah‘s character really adored. Because she wanted to watch his fan meeting, she sent several entries using different names of people to increase her chances of getting picked for the fan meeting. And she did get picked and eventually landed a date with him because of the entry that she sent… Here is the video from the episode (watch it before it gets removed).
Do I smell a drama with Junsu starring in it? I mean it could be a possibility, since Jaejoong and Yoochun have already done several dramas. Maybe Junsu’s up next..
This cameo appearance really had me laughing, because at one time during the dinner, they couldn’t help but use Junsu’s duck butt as a joke!! Oh Junsu! kk I miss that! We also got to hear him sing Intoxication and see him dance it of course. And he also sings You Are So Beautiful which is part of the OST of Scent of a Woman. OMG if this happens to me I would really be on cloud nine.. kk dream on!
Anyway… if you were a fan of Kim Sunah in My Name is Kim Sam Soon (oh my favorite Samsooni), I would recommend this drama. And Lee Dongwook (the guy from My Girl) stars in it too.

Asian Food: Jjajangmyeon
27 Jul 2011 Leave a Comment
in asian, Asian Food, coffee prince, drama, korean, Korean Tags: asian, coffee prince, jajangmyeon, jjajangmyeon, jjapageti, korean, korean food
I am a fan of Asian cuisine. I love it more than I do European or American. I absolutely love the flavors. Because of this, I’ve decided to add something like an introduction of Asian food on my blog. I know a lot of people have it in their blogs, but I want to share also what I think about a kind of food. Thus, it will start with the first post… Jjajangmyeon.
Like my penchant for anything Korean, I also like Korean food. Actually, the first time I tried it, I was not too keen on trying it again. But the more I ate Korean, the more I liked it. And yes, I am now a convert. I buy kimchi whenever I can and I always have gim (dried laver) stock at home if I suddenly have the urge to eat. Gim is always good with hot rice!!
So for the first post, I am sharing about one of my favorite Korean dishes, the Jjajangmyeon.
What is it?
The Jjajangmyeon 짜장면 (spelled also as Jajangmyeon자장면) is noddles with black sauce. It is a Chinese Korean dish made of wheat noodles topped with a thick sauce made of chunjang (a salty black soybean paste). It is said to have been invented in the city of Incheon in a restaurant called Gonghwachun (공화춘). According to Lonely Planet, the restaurant is still there and it’s one of the places to visit to when you do a Chinatown walking tour in Incheon.
Some people might be scared with the appearance because of the black sauce. But i tell you it’s delicious, though it’s not for those who don’t like salty food (sometimes it’s salty because of the chujang). Most Korean food are spicy and hot, but Jjajangmyeon isn’t so it’s safe to eat. It is sometimes cooked with vegetables and a little meat and then served with yellow colored pickled radishes (another one of my favorites).
The Jjajangmyeon is a very popular dish in Korea. I think you would recognize it if you saw the drama Coffee Prince. Who would ever forget the eating contest scene??
An interesting thing in Korea is that there is something called Black Day, it’s held every April 14. All the single ladies, put your hand up because this is the die when single Korean ladies eat Jjajangmyeon, or any dish that has Jjajang (the black sauce).
How to Make Jjajangmyeon?
I really suck at cooking so I can’t make an instruction video. But hallelujah for youtube because there are a lot of people posting up instructional videos.
This is the best how to make jjajangmyeon video I’ve seen. She makes it look simple and her English is clear.
Good luck to making your own Jjajangmyeon! ㅋㅋㅋ
The Jjapageti 짜파게티
For people who can’t cook like me, there is always an alternative. And Korea, they have instant Jjajangmyeon, the Jjapageti.
It comes in two packs, the one you see above and in cup noodle form.
Usually the one in the cup noodle is prepared like cooking the noddles in hot water and then draining it leaving only a little water so a sauce base can be made and then mixing it all together.
But a Korean friend taught me a better and more delicious way to prepare it using the microwave. Open the lid, add the flavoring, put hot water (maybe half , just enough water to cook the noodles), then pop it to the microwave for 4-5 minutes. It’s really better than the old way of cooking jjapageti!
So that’s the Jjajangmyeon. If you have tried it but you think it’s too salty, try to visit another Korean restaurant. I have tried lots here in my place before I finally found one that suited my taste perfectly.
Hope this little introduction helps. ^_^
